Reform leadership and governance in FIFA
The Issue
Football, the beautiful game that unites billions around the world, faces a serious governance challenge as we approach the FIFA World Cup 2026, to be hosted in the United States. I am deeply concerned as a devoted football fan and believe we must urgently address critical issues to preserve the integrity and spirit of the sport we love.
One of the most pressing concerns is the recent controversy involving the entry refusal of Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan. Referees play a crucial role in maintaining fairness and justice in the game. The unjust refusal to allow Mr. Artan entry on the grounds of alleged security risk not only damages the credibility of FIFA but also undermines trust among global fans, players, and officials. FIFA must ensure that all referees are treated with respect and given the opportunity to participate without prejudice.
Moreover, the overall governance structure within FIFA requires urgent reform. With increasing reports of mismanagement and lack of transparency within the organization, it is imperative that we demand accountability from the leaders responsible. The World Cup should be an event that celebrates unity and fair play, not one overshadowed by controversy and mistrust.
We urge FIFA and its president, Gianni Infantino, to take immediate, bold actions to reform the leadership and governance structures within FIFA. We propose the establishment of an independent oversight body tasked with ensuring transparency and fairness. This body should be responsible for conduct reviews, referee selections, and overall governance practices.
Football has the power to bridge cultural and national divides. Let us protect and nurture this power by demanding change from those who lead our beloved sport. Join me in this crucial journey to reform FIFA and safeguard the future of football.
Please sign this petition and share it widely to show your support and love for the game. Our voices matter, and together, we can make a difference.
