Personally, as a parent and a worker, I cherish the value of a reliable and safe public transit system. What propels me to launch this petition is the anxiety experienced every day while sending our children and our fellow community members to use the LA Metro everyday. It's time for a change in how LA County and LA Metro manages the metro system to ensure not just convenience, but also safety and accountability. 

To begin with, we urge the implementation of turnstiles at every station. This system change would verify each passenger's ticket purchases, reducing fare evasion instances. Preventing unauthorized entry into stations can help deter potential security risks. Moreover, It would ensure that our hard-earned taxpayer dollars funneled into public transit are properly accounted for, thus improving the overall efficiency of LA Metro. 

Another pressing reform we seek is the posting of attendants at all stations. As per Federal Transit Administration data, crimes committed on properties of US transit systems increased by 14.5% from 2015 to 2019. Let us enhance security measures to reverse this trend. Appointing responsible attendants would not only provide an additional layer of safety but would also give peace of mind to all Metro riders.

These improvements would drastically enhance our beloved LA Metro, an asset which provides around 1.2 million weekday trips to residents of Los Angeles County (American Public Transportation Association, 2019).
