Reform Global Caregiving and Disability Support Systems for Equitable Access

The Issue

This is more than just a call for reform. This is a personal plea born out of a lifelong struggle. For 18 years, my son like countless others have felt the harsh sting of a system that was supposed to protect and support individuals with disabilities. However, it has proven to be riddled with prejudices, neglect, and woefully inadequate resources. Systemic barriers persist, putting the safety and wellbeing of our children in jeopardy. We have lived through the worst and witnessed miracles that most wouldn't believe. We know the pain of what it's like to feel unsupported and scrutinized by the systems meant to help us. Not every parent has the strength or resources to fight relentlessly against these systemic barriers, and the outcome could determine life or death. Now, we're seeking unity and change on a global level. We ask for the reform of the global caregiving and disability support system to allow equitable access for all. We demand recognition of parents as paid caregivers, provisions for direct financial and housing supports, and stringent accountability for the systems that enact negligence. With an estimated 93 million children worldwide having moderate or severe disability (source: WHO), these changes are not just necessary – they are urgent. Families fighting for the basic human rights of their disabled loved ones should not bear the entire burden. We believe in a future where the caregiving and disability support networks uplift those they exist to serve, rather than oppress them. Join us in this fight and let's rebuild a system that genuinely cares for all. Please sign this petition.
