The Issue

My recent divorce opened my eyes to what I perceive as significant problems within our family court system and many of its outdated laws. Through my own experience, and after speaking with many fellow service members, I've observed a series of issues that demand careful consideration and reform.

Firstly, the way marriage contracts are currently established requires a thorough reform. Comprehensive marriage reform could prevent many of the problems we see today in divorces and custody battles.

No-fault divorce laws, which were initially designed to relieve burdens on the legal system and reduce the necessity to manufacture fault where there was none, have often led to unjust outcomes. In many cases, this system can punish a party without just cause.

Mandatory DNA testing at birth must become standard practice. This change would ensure parental certainty from the outset, preventing heartache and legal disputes later down the line.

Florida has recently enacted groundbreaking alimony reforms. These reforms need to be expanded nationwide to offer fairer resolutions during the emotionally charged divorce process.

Child support laws are in dire need of revision to create more balanced and just outcomes for involved parties, ensuring better protection and support for children.

Lastly, the Federal Former Spouse Protection Act, which impacts military pensions, is in need of repeal. It often leads to unfair financial distribution, particularly affecting those who serve our country.

By addressing these issues, we can create a more fair and just family court system for all. Every change suggested is with the aim of aligning our laws with modern realities and ensuring justice for all parties involved.

Join me in calling for reforms that will bring fairness to our family court system—sign this petition today to help create a better future for all individuals and families involved in these processes.
