As someone directly involved and affected by the practices of Family and Children Services Niagara (FACS), I have witnessed an alarming lack of accountability and responsibility within the organization. As a kinship applicant, I experienced horrendous defamation of character, xenophobic allegations, and false statements by FACS workers. This was a retaliation for a complaint, which I lodged due to their neglect and lack of concern for my 3-year-old nephew while he was in foster care.

FACS, whose mission should be to champion the well-being of children and support community members like me, betrayed our trust. Thus, it is pressing to demand a reform of FACS that ensures all workers are registered and can be held accountable for their actions. Moreover, a critical point of reform should be the removal of Executive Director, Anna Bozza. Mrs. Bozza boasts a salary of nearly $200,000 with an astounding $91,000 increase since 2008.

While such salaries double the average Canadian's annual salary, the FACS continuously claims to be underfunded in its efforts to support the area's children properly. This discrepancy is unfair, unreasonable, and unacceptable. It is high time we call out FACS for this incongruity and compel it to focus on what truly matters - the well-being of the children and families it is mandated to serve.
