Reform Child Social Services Laws for Greater Parental Support and Advocacy
Reform Child Social Services Laws for Greater Parental Support and Advocacy
The Issue
As a mother who has experienced the heart-wrenching ordeal of having my children under the care of social services for an extended period, I am calling for urgent reform in child social services laws. The current system is causing undue emotional and mental stress on both parents and children, tearing families apart without providing adequate support.
My personal experience echoes that of many others. We are left feeling helpless as our voices and views are often ignored or misrepresented by social services officials. This lack of transparency creates a sense of being in perpetual darkness, with goalposts constantly shifting out of reach.
Our children, especially those with additional needs, should have access to an advocate when discussing their family situation or other sensitive matters. Their words should not be twisted or taken out of context to fit narratives that may not reflect their true feelings or best interests.
It's crucial to note that this isn't just about my family; it's about countless others suffering similar fates. Research indicates that prolonged separation from family can have detrimental effects on a child's mental health (Source: American Academy of Pediatrics).
Therefore, we demand changes in legislation to ensure greater parental support from social services agencies. Children who have been in care for extended periods should be given the opportunity to return home with appropriate assistance provided by these agencies.
We call upon lawmakers to rectify this situation urgently - no parent or child should feel unheard or unsupported during such challenging times. Please sign this petition if you believe in a fairer and more compassionate child welfare system.
