The Issue

Growing up in Essex, Rush Park was my sanctuary—a place of peace and connection with nature. I now share this special corner of the world with my children, some of whom have disabilities, finding joy and comfort amidst its tranquillity. This lake is more than just a body of water; it’s a lifeline for our community and the diverse wildlife that calls it home.

The lake at Rush Park, home to a variety of fish, ducks, and other wildlife, has dwindled to worrying levels, threatening the delicate ecosystem that has flourished over the years. Wildlife such as fish and ducks depend on the lake for survival, and its depletion could lead to severe disruptions in their natural habitat.

A community group routinely meets at Rush Park, working tirelessly to maintain its beauty and integrity. However, without the Council's assistance in refilling the lake, their efforts and our shared heritage risk being irrevocably lost.

Refilling the lake is not only crucial for preserving local biodiversity but also for supporting diverse activities such as fishing and bird-watching, which are integral to the mental and emotional well-being of our community members.

I urge Basildon Council to take immediate action to refill Rush Park Lake, securing its future for wildlife and for generations to come. Our community—bound by our shared history and love for this space—depends on it. Please sign this petition to show your support for saving Rush Park Lake, its wildlife, and its invaluable role within our community.
