Reevaluate the Legislation Against XL Bully Dogs

Reevaluate the Legislation Against XL Bully Dogs
The Issue
In Cavan pound, a beautiful, innocent XL bully finds herself on death row, potentially set to be euthanized because of legislation that discriminates against her breed. This happening despite evidence of the dog's gentle nature and an available offer of a safe, secure home for her. We appeal to you today not for this one dog, but for all dogs of the XL bully breed that find themselves unfairly condemned due to the current legislation.
Fatal attacks by certain breeds have indeed occurred, contributing to public fear and bias, but it's important to remember that breed alone is not a predictor of aggression. A study by the American Veterinary Medical Association found that many factors influence a dog's behavior, including socialization, training, and health status - not simply breed (AVMA, 2014). It is deeply unjust to sentence every bull breed to potential death based on the actions of a few aggressive individuals. At present, bull breeds ending up in rescue or pounds cannot be rehomed according to the legislation, and must be destroyed.
This policy of breed discrimination needs to change. We must judge these animals based on their individual behavior rather than their breed. We wish that each animal in a rescue or pound can get a chance to be rehomed without fear of automatic euthanasia. It's time to put an end to the irrational discrimination and start treating dogs like the individuals they are. Please sign our petition to push for a revision of legislation, thereby saving potentially thousands of innocent lives from unnecessary extinction.
