Reevaluate the Definition of XL Bully in UK Legislation

The Issue

I am a proud owner of a standard bully who stands 53cm at the withers. Despite being a standard breed, my dog is unjustly categorized under the "XL Bully" ban by the UK government. This misclassification is not only unfair but also demonstrates an urgent need for education and understanding about different breeds among our lawmakers.

The current definition of an "XL Bully" in our legislation fails to consider variations within breeds and instead applies a blanket rule that unfairly targets certain dogs based on their size, rather than their breed or behavior. The American Kennel Club defines a standard bully as standing between 43-51 cm at the shoulder, meaning my dog falls within normal parameters for his breed (American Kennel Club, 2021).

This issue goes beyond just me and my pet - it affects countless other responsible pet owners across the country who are being penalized due to this inaccurate classification system. We must urge our government to reconsider this definition and implement more nuanced laws that accurately reflect different dog breeds.

Please sign this petition if you believe in fair treatment for all dogs regardless of size or breed. Let's educate our lawmakers about these wonderful animals and ensure they are judged based on their behavior rather than arbitrary measurements.
