The Issue

I am writing this petition not merely as an impacted individual, but as a voice for many others in a similar situation. I have a visual impairment that prevents me from driving, leaving me reliant on public transportation services to navigate around my community. However, a vital life line in our locality - the bus service between Kidlington and Yarnton - has been no longer in operation.

Before the service was discontinued, this served not only to transport locals between the two villages, but also to facilitate access to the wider public transport network, enabling travel across the region. In its absence, we are left without transport links to services such as Oxford Parkway station, our mobility severely constricted and our daily tasks made unnecessarily complicated.

The termination of this service has far-reaching impacts. It creates a substantial barrier for those with disabilities, children, the elderly, and anyone who does not drive; limiting their access to public services, jobs and general freedom of movement. In the UK, it is estimated that up to one third of the adult population lack a driving license, indicating the substantial need for robust public transport options (National Travel Survey, Department for Transport, UK).

It is pivotal that we address this pressing issue urgently. Public transportation services are not just a convenience; they are a necessity for many in our community. Therefore, we are calling upon our local authorities and public transport providers to reinstate the bus service between Kidlington and Yarnton. By signing this petition, you are supporting the rights to accessibility and mobility for every member of our community. Please, lend your signature to our cause.
