I am starting this petition due to the dangerous speed limit of 45 mph on Richardson. 2 weeks ago a child was struck in the crosswalk in the Smith Farms neighborhood and this week a beloved dog was hit and killed in front of his owner and other neighbors who bring their dogs to the Sweetwater subdivision dog park. We are requesting that the speed limit be reduced to 35mph on Richardson from US 64 all the way to Olive Chapel Road.

As the commercial developments continue in the Sweetwater subdivision, the foot traffic will only increase. Those commercial plans include an outdoor amphitheater and 240 apartments. When all is said and done these 2 subdivisions combined will have nearly 1,000 housing units. It's only a matter of time before someone is killed if we do nothing. 45mph is simply too fast to guarantee the safety of our children, pets, as well as ourselves. We're hoping that by starting this petition we can put pressure on the city of Apex and the Department of Transportation to take this request seriously.
