People may not understand that overfishing is an important topic and should be taken seriously. Not only does overfishing affect fish and other animals, but it also affects people as well. Many people rely on fish as a food source. Marine life is crucial for our oceans to stay healthy and nourished. According to What Are the Causes of Overfishing and How It Affects Our Environment, "Marine phytoplankton (tiny ocean plants) produce an estimated 80 percent of the oxygen we breathe through their photosynthesis." This means that the ocean is a huge part of our survival on Earth; it helps us breathe. If no action is taken to stop overfishing there will be massive consequences on the ocean that will ultimately affect the human population as well.
