Reduce WeHo's LASD Contract
Why this petition matters

TODAY IS THE LAST DAY! Demand that WeHo City Council reduces the LASD contract. Social media toolkit: jlanow.org/WehoPosts
The LA County Sheriff is not keeping cities safe.
Do you earn over $385,000 a year? That’s how much cities in LA County pay for one Los Angeles Sheriff’s officer. Over billing is standard practice –– Compton is suing the LASD for fraud. Over the past decade, the cost of a deputy has increased by 100%. What are cities getting in return? The largest Sheriff’s department in the world spends billions of taxpayer dollars to surveil communities and incarcerate residents. It has 18 deputy gangs. LASD is responsible for nearly 300 in-custody deaths in the last 9 years. Still, LASD’s $3.6 billion budget is larger than the budgets for: Public Health ($1.8 billion); and Affordable Housing and Homelessness ($218 million) combined.
West Hollywood is #PayingMoreforLess
In February, the WeHo Public Safety Commission recommended the City Council direct $3.6M out of the Sheriff’s contract into social services. There are 60 Officers in the two square mile city, soaking up 20% the annual budget for very little in return. City staff are ignoring the Commission’s recommendations, and instead increasing the LASD contract. The 2022-23 proposed budget allocates four times more to the Sheriff’s department than to social services. It will increase the LASD contract by $1 million. WeHo is paying LASD $400,000 for a single deputy – three times what mental health and social service workers are paid.
Sign today to support the $3.6 million reduction of West Hollywood's $22.1 million dollar LASD contract. Demand that WeHo City Council re-allocate this money into the social services budget today!
