Reduce Waiting Times for PET Scans in the NHS 5 MONTHS IS TO LATE !!!!!
The Issue
My father was diagnosed with bladder cancer in April 2023, after noticing blood in his urine. Within two weeks of this symptom appearing, he underwent a procedure and was immediately diagnosed with cancer. However, with the nhs we then had to wait an agonizing five months for a (PET) scan only to be told that it was too late - the cancer had spread too far. In those five months, he received no treatment plan; he was simply left to wait and worry and they left the cancer to spread.
My dad now has 1 year roughly left to live , we are now planning end if life care.
This is not just our story - it's the story of many families across the UK who are forced to endure long waiting times for essential diagnostic procedures like PET scans on the NHS. According to Cancer Research UK, early diagnosis significantly improves survival rates for most types of cancer. Yet, patients are being made to wait months for these critical tests.
We call upon the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England to review their policies on waiting times for PET scans and other crucial diagnostic procedures related to cancer care. We urge them not only consider reducing these waiting times but also ensure that patients receive appropriate treatment plans while they wait.
Please sign this petition if you believe that no one should have their life put on hold or cut short due to bureaucratic delays in receiving potentially life-saving medical tests.
