Reduce VAT for Hospitality to 12.5% in Norwich, UK

The Issue

As an independent business owner in the hospitality sector of Norwich, I am deeply concerned about our survival. The current VAT rate is a heavy burden on our industry and it's threatening to close us down. We are not alone in this struggle; there are numerous other small businesses facing the same dire circumstances.

The hospitality sector has been one of the hardest hit by the pandemic, with thousands of jobs at risk across the country. According to UKHospitality, a trade body representing the UK’s hospitality sector, revenues fell by £72bn in 2020 compared to 2019 due to Covid-19 restrictions (source: BBC News).

A reduction in VAT for our industry from its current rate of 20% down to 12.5% would provide much-needed relief and could be a lifeline for many struggling businesses like ours. This is not unprecedented; several European countries have already implemented similar measures with positive results.

We urge HM Revenue & Customs and Chancellor Rishi Sunak to consider this plea from Norwich's independent businesses that form such a vital part of our local economy and community spirit. Please support us by reducing VAT for hospitality services to 12.5%. Sign this petition today - your signature can make all difference!
