Reduce Traffic Speed on Bursledon Rd
Reduce Traffic Speed on Bursledon Rd
The Issue
Having just moved into a property on Bursledon Road in Hedge End, I am genuinely concerned for the safety and wellbeing of the residents, especially the children and parents using the nearby splash park.
Unbelievably, even though this area has high footfall of young children and elderly people, there is no set residential speed minimum.
I am also completely shocked to feel the intensity of the impact on local properties. Whenever an HGV or bus goes past the house, the property literally shudders every time. This really worries me as to how it will affect the structural integrity of homes close to the road.
Each day, I have witnessed numerous HGV lorries, buses and speeding vehicles race along our road, causing the ground to tremble and shake the foundations of our houses. This constant disturbance not only risks damage to personal property but also poses a significant safety threat to all who live and traverse here.
This road is home to a vibrant community of all ages, but predominantly elderly residents and, crucially, to a local children's play park.
With many children walking and playing in the vicinity, every speeding vehicle becomes a potential hazard waiting to happen. The current traffic speeds are not only distressing but also dangerous, placing not just our youngest and eldest residents at risk but everyone and creating an environment where accidents are unfortunately literally waiting to occur.
To address this ongoing issue, I am calling for the immediate installation of some traffic calming methods asap.
Speed bumps, slow down signs, banning HGV's etc.
Intermittently staggered speed bumps alone along our road would make a HUGE difference in slowing down traffic.
Speed bumps have proven effective in reducing traffic speeds and enhancing pedestrian safety in residential areas globally.
By implementing traffic calming measures, we can drastically improve the safety of our community, ensuring that our streets are safe for children to play and people to walk without the constant fear of speeding vehicles.
I urge local authorities to take urgent action to please look into this and urgently prioritise the safety and comfort of Hedge End's residents.
By installing speed bumps, not only will we address the current safety concerns, but we will also promote a calmer, more peaceful neighbourhood conducive to community life.
If you also live in the area and feel passionate about this, please help protect our children, protect our homes, and preserve the safety and tranquillity of Hedge End by signing this petition.
Together we can ask for immediate action and to make our residential road a safer place for everyone.
Over the coming weeks I shall be focusing on some mini surveys and logging numbers of HGV/ Buses and speeding vehicles to aid this petition ( no registrations will be documented however I have also asked Hedge End Police for their input and to implement a possible 'Speed Watch 'date to be set).
If you feel strongly about this and would like to assist me, please get in touch, as there is a lot of evidence/ statistics to be gained before action is likely to happen.
I have spoken with a few local residents already and it seems some have previously tried to ask for traffic calming measures but to no avail as Highways and Council contacts refuse to agree who this issue sits with. This is not good enough. This cannot be brushed under the carpet and ignored.
Please also add any comments to this petition and any attempts you may have even tried yourself in the past to action similar projects?
I shall also be composing a flyer to post through all local letterboxes in an attempt to reach more residents who may not see this online or on Facebook and social media platforms.
Thankyou for your time.
