The Issue

My husband has been in three alarming car accidents—all beyond his control—right at the moment he was trying to get home, to turn into our driveway on Whaleyville Blvd. Speaking as a wife, a resident, and a concerned member of our community, I believe that such a dangerous trend should not be taken lightly. High-speed motor traffic on this particular street in Suffolk, Virginia is a hazard not only for my family but for all families who call this place home.

While we value the convenience of a fast-paced route, safety should never be compromised. It's worth noting that according to research, where speed limits were lowered, a significant decline in road traffic injuries and fatalities was noted (source: World Health Organization). It's high time we prioritized lives over luxury and called for a concrete change.

We urge the Suffolk City Council to reduce the speed limit on the Whaleyville Boulevard. They need to take note of our situation and those of many others who may not have spoken up. Too many stories echo ours, too many people face the danger every time they set foot on the highway. Let us ensure that no other husband, wife, child, or friend will have to risk their lives just to get home.

Please sign this petition, let's make Whaleyville Boulevard a safer place for all of us.
