Reduce the Speed Limit on US 69 North for Safer Residential Areas

Reduce the Speed Limit on US 69 North for Safer Residential Areas
The Issue
There's a story behind every petition, and ours begins with a simple property purchase. My family and I recently purchased a home off US 69 North. Our attraction to the semi-rural area was fueled by its hilly terrain, but a near-accident with an 18-wheeler laid bare the danger we now face on daily basis. The roads, bisected by hilly terrain, create multiple blind spots, posing a serious threat to us, and our fellow residents.
Currently, the speed limit on US 69 North is set at 75, an absurd number considering residential zones typically maintain limits at 55 or below. Given the gravitational force acting upon the 18-wheelers driving over these hills, the established limit is a recipe for disaster. There is only about a 3 mile strip at this high rate. It should be reduced to be the same throughout the residential road - 55.
The issue isn't confined to speed alone. A string of driveway intersections with the highway provide more than their fair share of fender-benders and near-misses. It's high time the Department of Transportation takes note and initiates countermeasures, such as escalated patrolling and strict enforcement of trucking standards.
We're not alone in our struggle. Multiple communities across the country have faced similar issues, resulting in updated, safer traffic regulations. It's crucial that we draw lessons from these cases and apply them here.
Prevention is better than cure, and it’s in our collective hands to avoid future accidents. Together, let's call upon the relevant authorities to reduce the speed limit on US 69 North and uphold stricter vigilance on 18-wheelers, ensuring safety for everyone who uses this road. Sign this petition to make our roads safer for all residents and road users.
