Reduce the Speed Limit on Coit Road and El Dorado to improve safety & reduce accidents

The Issue

As residents affected by the unnervingly high speeds of vehicles on Coit Road and El Dorado, we have personally witnessed the danger this poses to us and others in the community. Every day, families with children, commuters, and pedestrians cross these streets to access nearby facilities such as the Desi district, Liscano Elementary School and Tom Thumb. The existing speed limit of 50 mph has made it a risky task. In recent times, the dangers have amplified, leading to numerous accidents and, tragically, even loss of life. This calls for an urgent review and adjustment of the speed limit on Coit Road between Charismatic Parkway and El Dorado, and on El Dorado between Coit and Mammoth Cave.

Nationally, pedestrian fatalities account for 16% of all traffic fatalities, and the risk exponentially increases with every increment in speed (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). Lowering the speed limit from 50 mph to 35 mph can reduce the risk of fatalities by 50%, making it a life-saving initiative (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety).

By signing this petition, we call upon the local authorities to prioritize our safety by reconsidering and reducing the speed limit. Your support can be instrumental in securing a safer neighborhood for us all. Please join us in making this life-changing appeal. Sign the petition today.
