The Issue

We, the undersigned, call on Buckinghamshire Council to urgently review and reduce the speed limit on Aylesbury Road, Aston Clinton, from 50mph to 30mph.

This stretch of road has become increasingly dangerous due to excessive vehicle speeds, heavy traffic generated by recent housing developments, and frequent dangerous overtaking manoeuvres involving buses and lorries.

Residents regularly witness vehicles travelling well above the speed limit, with some estimated to be exceeding 70mph. Near misses involving cyclists, pedestrians and children are becoming alarmingly common, and many local people feel unsafe using or crossing this road.

There is also growing evidence that speeding traffic is having a devastating impact on local wildlife. Multiple animal fatalities have occurred on this stretch of road, and Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital has reported an increase in casualties being brought in from the area.

The current speed limit no longer reflects the volume of traffic, the surrounding community, or the risks faced by vulnerable road users and wildlife.

We call on Buckinghamshire Council to:

• Reduce the speed limit on Aylesbury Road, Aston Clinton, from 50mph to 30mph.

• Conduct an immediate speed survey and road safety review.

• Assess the impact of recent development and increased traffic volumes.

• Consider additional traffic-calming measures and enforcement.

• Take action before a serious injury or fatality occurs.

Road safety improvements should not wait until a tragedy happens. By signing this petition, we urge Buckinghamshire Council to act now to protect residents, cyclists, pedestrians, children and wildlife.
