Starting this petition is not an easy task for me. I recently lost my sister in a tragic accident. Someone ran through a red light and took her life. This stretch of highway on US 50, in West Union, West Virginia from Snowbird Road to Tollgate, has claimed many lives due to similar incidents. Stories like my sister’s are far too common and a painful reminder of the urgent need for action. 

Speeding has been identified as a key risk factor in road traffic injuries, influencing both the risk of a road traffic crash and the severity of the injuries that result from crashes (World Health Organization). We cannot stand by while our loved ones risk being the next victims of a preventable accident. We must insist on the reduction of the current speed limit to ensure a safe commute for all those traveling this route.
