Reduce the sentence time for Kamiya Jones
The Issue
We are asking for a reconsideration of the six-year prison sentence given to Kamiya Hope Jones, who had only just turned 18 years old. At an age when most young people are just beginning adulthood, building their futures, and learning to navigate the world, her life has taken a devastating turn. She had no prior criminal history, committed no infractions while under supervision, and never violated the conditions of her bond. We believe these circumstances deserve meaningful consideration when reviewing the sentence she has received.
Beyond her age and record, she also lives with a severe form of Crohn’s disease, a chronic inflammatory condition that can cause painful flare-ups, digestive complications, fatigue, nutritional difficulties, and significant weight loss. She has experienced flare-ups, lost weight, and must avoid certain foods because of how they affect her condition. Managing Crohn’s requires consistent medical care, appropriate medication, adequate nutrition, and careful monitoring. We are concerned about the challenges she may face maintaining her health throughout a six-year incarceration. We believe that justice should take individual circumstances into account and that there should be room for compassion when considering whether a sentence is proportionate to the person and their situation. We respectfully urge the appropriate legal authorities to review her sentence and consider a reduction or another legally available alternative. Six years is a significant portion of a young person’s life, and we hope there is an opportunity for her to work toward rehabilitation, protect her health, and rebuild her future.
Please sign and share this petition to support a fair and compassionate review of her sentence. Every signature helps bring attention to her circumstances and amplifies our request for reconsideration. She is a young woman with a future ahead of her, and we believe her story deserves to be heard. We are asking for fairness, compassion, and an opportunity for a second chance.
