Reduce the food wasted in Tenafly

Reduce the food wasted in Tenafly
The Issue
I, and many other people think it's wrong to waste perfectly good food that you can instead give it to food drives or pantries, where there are people who need it, and many valuable resources are wasted in the process.
Food waste is when perfectly good food is thrown in the trash and sent to landfills. Over 1/3 of food produced (greater than 1 billion tons) is wasted or lost, and around 1/4 of precious resources like time, water, labor, and energy, is wasted as well. Also, the economy loses over $1 trillion dollars each year.
People all over Tenafly and the world are affected by food waste. For example, it affects the farmers wasted resources, time, labor, and energy to make the food. It also affects the environment because in landfills, food waste creates a toxic chemical called methane (CH4), a greenhouse gas, which speeds up the out-of-control greenhouse effect, heating up the Earth.
If we continue to waste food, more resources will be wasted, and more methane will be released into the air, polluting the environment. By reducing the food waste we release, you can help our environment, save valuable resources, and make a difference.
