Reduce Taxes in the Town of Holyrood!

Reduce Taxes in the Town of Holyrood!
The Issue
As concerned residents, we respectfully request that the Mayor and Councillors of the Town of Holyrood immediately:
1. Reduce non-essential spending.
2. Reduce residential and commercial taxes.
3. Right-size the expenditures of the Town of Holyrood to be in relative comparison to other municipalities with similar population.
4. Establish an organizational review oversight committee to include residents.
5. Develop a new strategic plan and ensure it aligns with citizens and businesses vision and best interests.
TODAY'S REALITY
In a post pandemic world when we are in an unprecedented time in our worlds history where;
- Inflation is at a 30-40 year high,
- Gasoline, diesel and home heating fuel prices are soaring,
- Cost of food is increasing at a pace of 11.4% - the fastest pace of increase in grocery bills since 1981 and;
- Interest rates are at a 30-year high.
The Town decided to further reach into residents’ and businesses pockets to increase spending and voted 6-1 to increase residential and business tax in 2023.
QUICK FACTS
1. In 2023, the town will increase annual spending and the debt load by borrowing an additional $1.3 MILLION for unspecified projects at a rate of interest of 6-7%.
2. The Town of Holyrood has one of the highest debt loads of the entire province at currently at 16%.
3. The Town of Holyrood spends 16% or nearly $700K annually of our $4.4 Million budget on just servicing that debt.
There has never been a more important time in recent history to right size government spending at all levels.
