Reduce syllabus and improve book availability for Class 9 students
The Issue
I'm a student of Class 9 at DAV, and I know firsthand the sheer exhaustion that students face due to an overwhelming syllabus. It's not just me; my classmates and I often joke that NCERT treats us like robots, expecting us to cope with late-arriving books and a vast array of topics that seem impossible to fully grasp without burning out.
The 2026-27 batch of Class 9 students deserves a fair chance. We shouldn't have to battle logistical issues like delayed textbooks, nor should we be drowning in a tsunami of topics that steal away precious time meant for understanding and enjoying the learning process. This is not just about academic performance; it's about mental health, personal growth, and fairness.
A 2021 study by the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration found that Indian students report high levels of stress due to academic pressures. Additionally, reports from education analysts showcase the delays in textbook delivery as a persistent issue affecting our educational journey.
Despite repeated requests and feedback, the situation has not improved. The need for a more manageable syllabus, timely availability of learning materials, and a thorough review of our curriculum is urgent. Simplifying the syllabus without compromising on essential learning, ensuring textbooks are available before the academic year, and providing additional online resources could be potential solutions.
We urge the Ministry of Education and NCERT to take immediate action. Let’s stop treating students like machines and start recognizing the human need for balance and comprehensive understanding in education.
By signing this petition, you can help create a better educational environment for thousands of students across India, saving them from unnecessary stress and burnout. Please join us in making a difference for Class 9 students of the future.
