I'm a resident of Springbank Ave, a quaint and safe neighborhood that I take pride in calling home. However, lately, I've noticed an alarming trend that threatens our peaceful community - excessive speeding on Springbank Ave and Algonquin Rd. As both an alarmed citizen and a scared neighbour, I am starting this petition in hopes of putting an end to this.

Statistics show that speeding increases both the likelihood of a crash and the severity of crash outcomes. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a speed-related crash claimed life every 50 minutes in the USA in 2018. Yet, despite this, reckless drivers continue to use our residential streets as their personal speedways, endangering both pedestrians and other motorists.

In the interest of our community's safety and wellbeing, we are advocating for stronger speeding regulations and enforcement on Springbank Ave and Algonquin Rd. This action is necessary to prevent a possible tragedy and to preserve the serene environment of our home.  We have crossing guards, school zone signs, crosswalks and reduced speed signs. It’s not enough to prevent speeding!

This is a vital issue affecting the very safety of our residents that ought to be addressed swiftly.
