As a long-time resident of Danes Road, I have witnessed a significant rise in traffic and speeding, leading to numerous collisions and even the tragic loss of domestic animals. The safety of our community is at stake, and it is imperative that we take action to prevent further accidents and ensure a safer environment for all residents and their pets.

The current speed limit of 30mph in the centre of Awbridge is simply too high, considering the increased traffic and the residential nature of the area. To protect our community, we urge the relevant authorities to reduce the speed limit to 20mph on the specified roads:

- Danes Road and Saunders Lane: from the junction with Church Lane to the junction with Butteridge Rise.
- Romsey Road: from the Village sign at Kents Oak to the entrance at Spring Field.

In addition to adjusting the speed limit, we also propose the installation of speed humps or other traffic calming measures on Danes Road, particularly on the dip approaching the village, to further deter speeding and enhance safety.

Slower speed limits have been proven to reduce the frequency and severity of accidents, making roads safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike. According to a study by the UK Department for Transport, reducing the speed limit by just 10mph can significantly decrease the likelihood of accidents and the potential for serious injury.

It's been proved in nearby villages such as Chilbolton and Over Wallop that a 20mph zone also deters and diverts sat nav guided traffic that uses the route as a cut-through or rat-run.
