Reduce Speed Limit on East Bagdad Road for Safety and Wildlife Protection

Reduce Speed Limit on East Bagdad Road for Safety and Wildlife Protection
The issue
I am a resident of Bagdad, TAS, Australia, and I am deeply concerned about the safety issues on East Bagdad road. This road is too narrow and windy to warrant a speed limit of 100 kph. The high speed coupled with the road's challenging conditions has led to numerous accidents involving our precious wildlife. Wombats, wallabies, birds as well Tasmanian Devils have all been casualties of this reckless driving.
Moreover, there are many hidden driveways along this route which pose an additional risk for potential accidents. It is only a matter of time before an awful accident occurs if people continue to drive at such high speeds up and down this road.
The need for dusk-to-dawn signs with a reduced speed limit of 65 kph is urgent in order to protect both human lives and animal lives alike. Too many animals are being hit by speeding cars and left to die on the roadside - it's heartbreaking. Also maybe some animal fencing on the sides of the road or some strategically placed speed humps in the areas where most of the animals are being hit.
By reducing the speed limit from 100 kph to 80 kph from dawn-to-dusk we can significantly decrease these incidents. According to research by the Australian Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications (2020), lower speeds reduce both crash occurrence as well as severity when they do occur.
This issue is personal for me because I cannot stand seeing innocent wildlife being hit by cars due to excessive speeding on this dangerous stretch of road anymore. We must act now before it's too late! Please sign this petition urging local authorities in Bagdad TAS Australia to reduce the speed limit on East Bagdad Road from 100kph down to 80kph immediately!
