Petition Update - 17.06.2024
Hi All, just providing an update following an outcome from Highways. I must stress though I'm disappointed and expressed dissatisfaction in Highways disregard for local residents concerns.
• Visibility from Mansfield Road and Sandys Road junctions
Highways have confirmed they will not lower the landscaping looking up Townsend Way towards Pickersleigh Road.
• Potential solutions to slow traffic down on approach to the roundabout with Mansfield Road and Sandys Road
Highways have ruled rumble strips and blind junction signs out as ineffective and therefore not worth considering.
• Road Markings - centre lines/junctions
Highways have following an assessment concluded that the road markings do not need repainting. I'm baffled by this response given they are barely visible or non-existent in places.
• VAS installation
VAS installation going ahead and currently in hand although no timeframe for the installation but hoping to get something shortly 🤞
• Pedestrian crossing
Highways we're initially positive on this however following their investigations their now not as keen on the idea because Malvern Hills Trust own the land between Townsend Way and North End Lane. Again, I'm once again baffled at this complete disregard and it seems as though its too much like hard work for Highways. I would say Malvern Hills Trust would be supportive given the safety of local residents and the local community accessing their land.
• Anti-social driving
This has been dismissed by Highways and is now being referred to West Mercia Police and Worcestershire Regulatory Services.
I have expressed my disappointment and disbelief to Highways for completely ignoring local concerns and dismissing all suggestions.
I have also said that should anyone ever be seriously injured or killed on Townsend Way the blame should be firmly aimed in their direction. I strongly believe if some of these suggestions had been actioned this would reduce the risk for all road users and improve safety but clearly Highways are unwilling to say anything but 'No".
I am however hopeful the VAS will remind drivers of the speed limit and encourage them to adhere to the speed limit in place.
Matt
