The Issue

Please ensure you read the 26th May 2024 update further down the page, as well as the original description below;

The B4028 (Townsend Way, Malvern) was not built as a main through road but over the years has become noticeably busier, and the speed of the traffic has continued to increase with disturbances around the clock.

Residents are getting increasingly frustrated and level of road noise, racing and illegal exhaust systems causes disturbances quite literally 24/7.

In recent years, there have been numerous accidents and if nothing is done there is a high chance at some point, someone will die.

It has also become more difficult to pull out of the estate roads/roundabouts and Mayfield Road due to the speed of traffic. Causing limited visibility of and from junctions resulting in poor judgement of approaching vehicles speed or seeing the junctions In the first place.

Vehicles approach the roundabout too fast resulting in some not stopping to give way for anyone on the roundabout or having to brake sharply to stop to avoid collisions.

This is a residential area where families live, children play, and people walk their pets. Reducing the road speed to 30mph or less and installing road calming measures (Digital speed sign/speed camera/speed bumps/chicanes/priority junctions etc) which will significantly improve safety for everyone.

All roads in the area are 30mph or less so why should this road be any different?

Raised with Councillor Paul Bennett (Malvern Hills District Council), Councillor Marilyn Birks (Malvern Town Council), Councillor Beverley Neilsen (Worcestershire County Council) and West Merica Police Road Safety.

According to ROSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents), reducing speed limits can decrease accident rates by up to 60%. Implementing these changes will not only protect our community but also create a safer environment for all residents.
