I am writing this petition as a concerned resident of Kennington, Ashford, UK. As a local resident and parent with a child attending school nearby, I have become increasingly alarmed by the number of domestic animals being tragically killed by speeding vehicles in our community. It is time for us to take action and protect the lives of our beloved pets.

Recently, I experienced firsthand the heartbreak of having my own animal injured due to speeding vehicles in our area. This incident made me realize that I am not alone in facing such unfortunate circumstances. Reports from other residents have highlighted similar incidents involving their pets being fatally struck by vehicles on Faversham Road and surrounding roads.

According to official accident reports from the local authorities, there has been a significant increase in road accidents involving domestic animals within Kennington over the past year alone. These incidents not only result in immense emotional distress for pet owners but also pose serious risks to public safety.

To address this urgent issue and prevent further loss of innocent lives, we propose reducing the speed limit on Faversham Road within Kennington community. By implementing a lower speed limit, we can create safer conditions for both pedestrians and animals alike.

Studies conducted by renowned traffic safety organizations such as Brake and RoSPA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) consistently demonstrate that reduced speed limits significantly reduce road accidents and fatalities across various communities worldwide. Lowering the speed limit will encourage drivers to be more cautious while driving through residential areas like ours.

We believe that reducing the current speed limit on Faversham Road from 30 mph (48 km/h) to 20 mph (32 km/h) would greatly contribute towards ensuring safer roads for everyone – humans and animals alike – within our close-knit community.
