Reduce Roblox's profit cut from child developers

The Issue

Children are getting exploited all over the world to give a multi-million dollar company even more money. Roblox, a popular online gaming platform, is taking an unfair share of the profits generated from game playtime created by young developers. These aspiring developers, some as young as eight years old, are dedicating countless hours to creating games that millions enjoy, only to see 70-81% of their hard-earned profits blatantly taken by Roblox.

This is not just about money, it's about fairness and encouraging young talent. According to recent reports, Roblox's revenue reached over $923 million in 2020, yet the young creators who fuel this success see very little in return. Imagine a child spending weeks creating a game, dreaming of their work being enjoyed by others, only to have the majority of their earnings withheld by the platform they trusted.

A more equitable profit-sharing model would only take about 50-55% of playtime profit from these young developers, leaving them with a fair share of their work’s earnings. This adjustment will not only compensate them fairly for their efforts but also encourage more children to take part in game development, fostering a new generation of developers.

I thought I knew how much work was put into a game, but I severely underestimated. This is exploiting children who put maybe even weeks into these games, while also juggling school and perhaps other responsibilities. All of this work, just for Roblox to steal from those unknowing children. This is a problem, and to add on, in February 2024, there was a class action lawsuit against Roblox for exploiting children and making the game purposefully addictive.

Child developers deserve to benefit more from their creativity and hard work. It's time for Roblox to reassess its revenue policies and prioritize fairness and encouragement for the young creators who are integral to its success.

Join us in urging Roblox to adopt a more equitable profit-sharing model that respects the time, effort, and creativity of its youngest developers. Sign this petition to demand change for the future of young creators worldwide.
