The Issue

As residents of Wilfordon Ext 11, we are facing alarming structural and environmental issues due to the current development situation in our community. The houses in our neighbourhood are built on dolomitic soil, which is leading to the formation of sinkholes, a severe geological issue that endangers our properties and lives. The risk imposed by such unstable land is heightened by acid mine drainage, which further degrades the soil quality.

Our homes are also located on a water table or flood line, increasing our exposure to seasonal seepages. This means water often runs into our yards, undermining the structural integrity of our homes and posing serious health risks. The problem is compounded by our proximity to Princess Dam, known for its contaminated water, which leads to an increase of hazardous minerals like gypsum efflorescence throughout our area.

The presence of these environmental hazards not only disrupts our daily lives but also deteriorates the quality of life and could dramatically decrease our property values. Given these significant and ongoing issues, it is unjust for residents to pay the current rates for water and sanitation services, which do not even adequately address these environmental concerns or protect our homes.

We, therefore, seek an immediate reduction in municipal rates, water, and sanitation fees to reflect the compromised standards of living imposed on us by these factors.

Your support is crucial for initiating these changes. By signing this petition, you are advocating for a fair adjustment of rates and demanding immediate action to address the underlying environmental and structural concerns impacting our daily lives in Wilfordon Ext 11. Please join us in calling for a change , we can make a difference.
