The Issue

I really, really don't like homework or school; it's genuinely depressive. When I come home, I want to relax, not worry about assignments and projects. School already takes up a significant part of our day, and adding more work puts unnecessary pressure on students like me.

Homework, while intended to reinforce learning, often ends up causing more harm than good. Studies show that excessive homework can adversely affect students' mental health, leading to stress, anxiety, and even depression. According to the American Psychological Association, stress levels in teens during the school year far exceed what adults experience, and homework is a significant contributing factor.

For many students, home should be a sanctuary, a place to unwind and engage in enjoyable activities. Just as school is not for playing video games, home should not be for schoolwork. A balanced life is crucial for our well-being and growth, and overwhelming homework loads disrupt this balance.

Further studies from Stanford University have shown that homework overload can reduce childhood happiness and limit time for other crucial developmental activities like exercise, hobbies, and spending time with family. If educators can adjust the curriculum to minimize or eliminate homework, it will promote a healthier, happier, and more balanced lifestyle for students.

Please join me in calling on school administrators and educational policymakers to reconsider and potentially reduce or eliminate homework workloads.
