Reduce NEET PG Counselling Fees for General Category

As someone who comes from a middle-class family, I have seen the financial burden this fee places on families like mine. The current registration fee is not just a number; it is a barrier that stands in the way of our dreams and our potential contributions to society as future healthcare providers.
According to recent data, approximately 50% of Indian households fall into the middle-class category. For these families, educational expenses already consume a significant portion of their income. So, a registration fee of ₹26,000 imposes an undue hardship, forcing many students to rethink their career paths. Also, there are many complaints that some are not getting the refund after the counselling ends.
This fee structure is inequitable. It unfairly discriminates against those who are determined and talented but lack the financial means. Access to higher education should not be limited by a student’s socioeconomic background. We believe in equal opportunities for all students to build a career in medicine without the worry of financial strains.
Therefore, we urge the Medical Counselling Committee and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to review and reduce the registration fee for the NEET PG counselling for general category students. By doing so, they will not only alleviate the financial burdens on countless families but will also encourage more students from diverse backgrounds to continue their education and serve the nation.
