Reduce excessive homework for UK students.

The Issue

I, along with countless other students in the UK, have experienced the stress and fatigue inherent in our current educational system's approach to homework. The work we are assigned to do at home is essentially a recapitulation of our in-school lessons, leading us to believe that it's a drain on our precious time. More pressing, however, is the emotional toll: stress levels amongst students are at an all-time high, undoubtedly exacerbated by the immense homework burden. A study by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) found that UK students aged 15 average 4.9 hours of homework per week. This not only surpasses the global average but also consumes an inordinate amount of time that could be spent fostering creativity, pursuing hobbies, or taking much-needed rest. We acknowledge that homework might have its role in reinforcing the academic concepts taught in classrooms. However, the present sheer volume and repetition exact too high a price. Hence, we call for a re-evaluation of our educational system's reliance on extra curricular work, with an eye toward reducing the undue stress it places on students. Please join us in advocating for a change that will foster a healthier, more balanced educational experience for UK students.
