Reduce Environmental Pollution in Unfairly Affected Chicago Communities

Reduce Environmental Pollution in Unfairly Affected Chicago Communities
The Issue
Our group, made up of residents from various parts of Chicago, urge local authorities and community leaders to take the necessary steps to reduce environmental pollution in those areas. Places like Little Village in Chicago are constantly exposed to toxic waste from industrial plants purposely added into those neighborhoods. The disparity is visible in the amount of pollution that Hispanic and African American communities face in comparison to others. There are scattered zones in our city where residents have to live with these terrible conditions that eventually lead to long term health risks like respiratory diseases and even cancer. Little Village, for instance, harbors a disproportionate amount of pollution. In 2020, the Crawford Coal Plant was demolished in Little Village without the government considering the impact that it would have on the community and its residents. This led to a toxic dust cloud covering the area. This is not just a call for change. It's our desperate plea for a healthier environment for ourselves and future generations. We seek support in urging the local government to actively enforce existing environmental laws, develop and implement more sustainable practices, and ensure fair distribution of green spaces and resources. Please sign this petition to ensure that our living spaces do not become our deathbeds. Let's work together to make Chicago more environmentally fair. This is our city. Our responsibility.
