Reduce Energy Usage in California to Combat Wildfires

The Issue

We are two sixth graders and even though some might think we are too young, we believe that age doesn't matter when you're trying to save our planet. We live in California and we're really concerned about the wildfires that have been damaging our state every year. Our beautiful forests, the diverse wildlife, and many homes are getting destroyed, and it's heartbreaking.

We learned that one of the biggest causes of these devastating wildfires is global warming, and a major contributor to global warming is energy consumption. It's hard to believe but 25% of all greenhouse gas emissions in California come from the electricity sector. These emissions are accelerating the pace of climate change, leading to hotter, drier conditions that make wildfires more frequent and severe.

One powerful way to address this problem is by reducing energy usage in our state, which is why we're calling on the government to prioritize energy efficiency and conservation. Implement programs that promote the use of renewable energy sources like solar and wind, improve public transportation to reduce individual car usage, and offer incentives for homes and businesses that make energy-efficient upgrades.

We know that making these changes won't completely eliminate wildfires, but it will reduce the risk and help protect our forests, wildlife, and our people. This is crucial for our future and for the planet, and we know the government has the power to make these changes happen. Please join us in taking action against the threat of wildfire and sign this petition to urge California leaders to implement stricter energy conservation measures and support renewable energy initiatives to combat climate change and its impact on our environment.

Your signature can be a spark of hope for a greener and safer California.
