Reduce CBSE Class 11 syllabus for student well-being
The Issue
Every year, countless Class 11 students across India face immense academic pressure from their school courses, especially in subjects like Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry. This pressure is not only overwhelming but also detrimental to their mental health and overall well-being. The current curriculum set by CBSE and NCERT is vast and, arguably, burdensome, leaving little room for students to explore learning creatively and manage their daily lives efficiently.
As a representative voice for my fellow 11th graders, I urge CBSE and NCERT to reconsider the syllabus demands. With the exception of senior secondary students, no other category faces such an intensive workload. Studies from various educational psychologists indicate that high academic pressure can lead to increased anxiety, stress, and even depression among students. If we continue on this trajectory, we risk creating an unhealthy academic environment that prioritizes quantity over quality of learning.
Furthermore, a recent survey by KPMG in 2022 highlighted that students who experience curriculum overload often find it challenging to balance extracurricular interests, family time, and important rest periods, adding to their stress levels. Education must be holistically beneficial and not a source of mental agony.
A practical solution would be to streamline the curriculum. By reducing the syllabus content in key subjects like Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry, CBSE can ensure that students grasp essential concepts without being overwhelmed by excessive details. This action would not only alleviate stress but also allow for a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of their chosen fields.
We must prioritize students' mental health and academic curiosity over rote learning and excessive expectations. Let's advocate for a balanced approach in education that fosters both intellectual and emotional growth. Please join me in urging CBSE and NCERT to take immediate steps towards reducing the academic load on 11th graders. Your signature can make a significant difference and help cultivate a healthier, more sustainable education system for current and future students.
Please sign this petition to support a much-needed reform for the betterment of young students across the nation.
