Redirect Proposed Low-Income Housing from Stoney Creek Downtown Core

The Issue

We are local business owners, residents, and advocates in Stoney Creek, Hamilton. Our community is at risk due to the city of Hamilton's proposal to build two low-income buildings right in our downtown core. This plan poses serious challenges for our already congested area.

Our downtown core is currently struggling with limited parking availability for existing residents. The influx of new residents will exacerbate this issue and intensify traffic on King Street which runs through the heart of our community.

Moreover, we lack adequate services such as schools and grocery stores to support an increase in population. Many essential facilities have been demolished over time, leaving us ill-equipped to handle a significant rise in residents.

We believe there are better locations within Hamilton for these proposed low-income housing units

This petition isn't against providing affordable housing; it's about ensuring that it's done thoughtfully and sustainably without jeopardizing the quality of life for current residents or those who would move into these new buildings.

According to Statistics Canada 2016 Census data (source), Stoney Creek has seen a steady growth rate over the past decade but lacks sufficient infrastructure development to match this growth pace.

We urge city officials to reconsider their proposal based on these concerns raised by us - the people directly impacted by this decision. Let's work together towards creating an inclusive city that caters effectively and responsibly towards all its citizens' needs without compromising on their quality of life.

Please sign this petition urging the City of Hamilton to redirect its proposed low-income housing projects from Stoney Creek’s downtown core.
