Redesign Georgia's State Flag - Adopt "The Empire of the South Flag"

The Issue

The current flag of Georgia, USA, has been in use since 2003. Unfortunately, it commemorates the Confederate National Flag, so I and many others believe it's time for an update that better represents our state's unique history and character. For this reason I am proposing a redesign that breaks Georgia's entanglement with the Confederacy while honoring the state's legacy through a visually striking yet familiar design.

This design pulls from the state seal and its symbolisms which can be found on the current flag. This design includes an arc of 13 stars on the blue hoist side, the stars representing the original 13 colonies and the arc shape representing "Constitution." On the right side, three stripes would symbolize wisdom, justice, and moderation - pillars upon which our state was founded. The four parts together (the three columns and arc) together represent Georgia being the fourth state to join Union. The four colors (red, white, blue, and yellow) can also carry this symbolism.

Some design variants could also incorporate peach color as an ode to our nickname 'The Peach State.' However, for the sake of resonance I have decided to use traditional colors, all but one from the current flag. By maintaining colors from our current flag but presenting them in this new design format we can honor tradition while embracing change.

This proposed redesign is not just about aesthetics; it's about fostering unity and pride among Georgians by having a flag that truly reflects who we are as a state. Please sign this petition if you agree with this proposed redesign and want to see it become reality.
