Reconsider the Restriction on Rockingham Dog Beach and Implement Fair Rules
The issue
I am a resident of Rockingham, WA, Australia, and like many others in our community, I walk my dog daily along Rockingham Dog Beach. I choose this beach especially because of the length it provides for a decent morning / afternoon walk. The large section also ensures that the dog ratio on beach is low, as people can spread out comfortably over that distance.
The recent cut-off has been a significant inconvenience for us dog walkers who make up the majority of beach users. In my personal experience, horses are present only about 5% of the time.
The current rules seem to prioritise an occasional user group over regular ones which doesn't seem fair or logical. It's important to note that we respect all users' rights to enjoy this shared public space. However, it is also essential that rules reflect actual usage patterns and ensure equitable access for all.
Therefore, we propose two possible solutions:
1) Dogs must be kept on lead if horses are present. A (hefty) fined offence
2) The beach ends by the noted section only when horses are on the beach.
These proposed changes would allow both dog walkers and horse riders to coexist peacefully without unnecessarily restricting access for either group based on infrequent usage scenarios.
Consider other ideas put forth. Let's work together towards a more inclusive and fair use policy for our beloved Rockingham Dog Beach.
