Over 62,000 people received notice of prosecutions for speeding on the a20 sidcup bypass crittals corner from December 2023.we ask that you reconsider all the nips given out until changes were made with all the points that have been brought up in this petition. Unfortunately all these people were unaware of the change in speed and inadequate signage of the notification. This road had gone from a 70 / 50 then to 40 which as TfL have said they promote safety which is an issue within itself in such a small distance seeing many near misses since TfL have decided to change all the signage since the end of January 2024 after realising though complaints it was impossible to see. The two cameras are placed either side of the garage meaning that anyone speeding could pull in and get fuel etc and not have a fine etc which makes the safety reason void. Unfortunately at the time there were not signs that could be seen and no lighting in the dark again meaning of any signs would not be seen. The satellite navigation systems is still showing 70mph but a 50mph sign remained in between the two average speed cameras. This has resulted in anxiety, mental health changes,A lot of stress,  people losing jobs from having many nips through the door and driving bans.we are in a time of a living crisis and these factors are not going to help people and the economy . TfL and the met police have done nothing but deny they were all wrong and even with 12 plus MPs writing to them to reconsider as this is unfair after the MPs for bexley and sidcup had been told that adequate signage notices etc would be out prior to cameras going live. they have still Ignored all of this. TfL have stated In their notice that this speed restriction is due to flooding by the bp garage and when present but seems now to be a permanent change. The opposite side is liable to flooding but still a 70mph zone. Where is the safety for road users on that side. In order for this change to stay they need to implement more signage and show people that the speed is changing, lights need to be fitted so that people can see these signs and notices, vegetation cut back in order to see any hidden signs and the hidden average speed camera. There needs to be a rethink on the positioning of the cameras and how they will be effective properly to stop people using the garage to void the speed. This has become profitable and scandalous on TfL and the metropolitan police’s side.
