After speaking with the district superintendent in December, he has concluded that there is nothing he can do to implement a change of this policy this school year, he said as this policy progresses and moves on there can be an implemented flexible policy, an example Mr. Gaal gave me was allowing students access to their devices for lunch or for later years to remove this policy as a whole so the district doesn't spend money on yondr pouches and can use their funds to put back into the D11 schools (as if they will). The superintendent said he would show my petition and its contents to the entire board at the end of the year to get a reconsideration or to vote on this.
It is sad to see that our school district and its school board members fail to achieve the basic mission of what they stand for, which is being engaged in our communities and keeping students safe, it is appalling to see that our superintendent has no interest in student matters and school safety matters.
It is proven that many students fail to feel safe in classrooms as they cannot contact their parents or guardians, and as our districts tell students and staff a month later that a PowerSchool data breach happened and information was compromised, including personal information, the email from D11 read "A cybersecurity incident that affected certain information belonging to our students and teachers, December 22, 2024, a PowerSchool contractor account was compromised and used to access some data related to our students and teachers."
I wonder what took the district and its members to come public with this important information and why the district fails to see that information like this is important to tell staff and students, there is no acceptable reason for the district to take almost a month to brief the public. The district also needs to tell us what was compromised and what data was leaked or found.
Sincerely, Jackson Mays
