These faculty members have transformed our academic journeys, influencing not just how we perceive writing and learning, but also boosting our confidence in ourselves. Some of us entered their classes feeling unsure or overwhelmed, yet left feeling inspired, supported, and genuinely excited to learn. The loss of such impactful professors doesn't merely alter schedules; it removes the very individuals who have helped shape our growth, educational outlooks, and academic connections.

Recently, UC Merced announced faculty cuts within the SSHA, sparking concern among the student body. We urge the administration to reconsider or pause these faculty cuts. A thriving academic environment is essential for student success, and maintaining a strong, diverse, and stable faculty is crucial to that success.

Transparency is vital in these decisions. Providing clear, detailed information about why these cuts are necessary will allow students and faculty to understand the situation better. It's crucial for the administration to explain how these decisions will not negatively impact student learning and graduation timelines. Moreover, maintaining a transparent dialogue with students ensures that our education remains a top priority.

We also ask that UC Merced prioritizes student interests and preserves the essential SSHA faculty members who play a critical role in our academic and personal development.
