The Issue

We, the residents of The Hindman Park Community, feel neglected and overlooked by City officials. Since 2020, we have actively engaged with the local authorities, sharing our concerns and proposals for the park that borders several of our homes. Unfortunately, our voices have fallen on deaf ears. Over the years, we have witnessed a decline in the park's condition and the surrounding neighborhood, which has negatively impacted our property values. The closure of our local golf course and elementary school has exacerbated these issues, turning once-vibrant community spaces into overgrown and unsecured areas, breeding grounds for both homelessness and crime.

We believe it is imperative that the City allocates necessary funds to address and upgrade Hindman Park. First and foremost, the park's creek desperately needs a cleanup. This action will prevent further flooding, enhance fishing access, and most importantly, eliminate the unpleasant odor currently affecting the area. Furthermore, the dilapidated conditions of the existing ballfield, playground, pavilion, basketball courts, walking trails, and benches need urgent attention. We propose an upgrade to these facilities to restore community pride and provide a safe, welcoming space for our families.

Moreover, improved lighting around the ballfield, pavilion, and the road leading to the clubhouse is critical for safety during evening hours. Regular maintenance, beautification, and manicuring of the park grounds are necessary to keep it inviting and pleasant for all community members. Only after these pressing needs are addressed should we consider the implementation of additional amenities such as disc golf and bike trails.

Hindman Park has the potential to serve as a cornerstone for our community, providing a safe haven for recreation and family gatherings. By investing in its restoration and maintenance, we can transform it into a vibrant hub that benefits residents of all ages.

We urge our City officials to listen to our concerns, allocate the needed funds, and prioritize the upgrading of Hindman Park without further delay. Stand with us to make Hindman Park a place we can all be proud of. Please sign this petition to show your support and help us bring this crucial issue to the attention of our local leaders.
