I am a regular internet user who has witnessed countless instances of innocent people being verbally abused simply because they are Jewish or believe in Israel's right to exist. This is not just a personal observation, but a distressing reality that many face online every day. The term 'Zionist' is often used derogatorily, weaponized to attack and belittle individuals based on their beliefs or heritage.

Hate speech is defined by the American Bar Association as "speech that offends, threatens, or insults groups, based on race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, disability or other traits." By this definition and considering the increasing number of incidents reported (Anti-Defamation League reported a 75% increase in anti-Semitic incidents since 2015), it becomes clear that using 'Zionist' as an insult falls under hate speech.

We urge lawmakers to acknowledge this issue and take action. Using 'Zionist' pejoratively should be recognized for what it truly is - hate speech - and reprimanded with the same severity as racist language.
