I have personally seen Islamophobia rising in prevalence among Israeli media websites. This unfortunate reality shakes me to my core and highlights the urgent need to take decisive action against such discriminatory practices. Just as Antisemitism is recognised as a serious offence world-wide, Islamophobia should be given the same severity. Hate crimes against Muslims in Israel increased by 14% in 2018 and 2019 alone, according to the Israeli National Police.  Between 2005 and 2015, there were 11,000 attacks on Palestinians by Jews in the West Bank and in East Jerusalem. The fuse paper was always present and since 07/10 the worst possible atrocities are being committed against Muslims. 
In a world where we should be fostering mutual respect and understanding between religions, these numbers are deeply troubling. Silence against Islamophobia only fuels the flames of prejudice and widens the divide between communities. Therefore, we urge the legal authorities to recognise Islamophobia as a significant criminal offence, comparable to Antisemitism.
