Reclassify Case #25-2283 as Capital Homicide — Justice for Layne Parnell

Reclassify Case #25-2283 as Capital Homicide — Justice for Layne Parnell
The Issue
On 10-07-2023 Layne Abraham Parnell entered this world, his beautiful soul lit the world on the darkest of days. His life was taken too soon at the hands of his own mother and her live in boyfriend. They withheld Layne from Me, Laynes grandfather, as well as day care for 3 weeks prior to his death On October 13, 2025. This left us all with questions and the feeling that we could have done more.
Layne Parnell was killed in Suwannee County, Florida. The individuals responsible were charged with negligent manslaughter, a charge that fails to reflect the deliberate, brutal nature of the crime.
Florida law (F.S. § 782.04) defines capital homicide for acts that are heinous, atrocious, or cruel—especially when committed against a child. We, the undersigned, demand that the Third Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office review Case #25-2283 and upgrade the charges to capital homicide.
We call on:
State Attorney John Durrett and his prosecutors to convene a grand jury.
Florida’s lawmakers to ensure that deliberate child-killings are prosecuted to the fullest extent.
The Citizens of Suwannee County and beyond to stand with Layne’s family in demanding accountability.
Layne’s life mattered. His story must end in justice, not compromise.
Sign this petition to support #JusticeForLayne and urge prosecutors to treat this case with the gravity it deserves.
