As a coach and parent, I have witnessed firsthand the incredible potential our young residents have, whether on the sports field or in community activities. However, despite our thriving spirit and tight-knit community, there lies a significant oversight that urgently needs addressing.

Unlike neighboring towns, Franklin Lakes lacks a dedicated community center for our children. Our Recreation and Parks department, the cornerstone of our community activities, operates out of a shed and what can only be described as a cramped annex. The Sports Director juggles her duties from an office with limited space, and both the Community Director and Administrative Assistant are confined to a small shared office at the building's end. For a borough of our strength, size, and competitive nature, this arrangement is simply inadequate.

Regaining the community center isn't just about bricks and mortar. It's about fostering an environment where our children can develop their skills, explore their interests, and feel a profound sense of belonging. A fully-equipped community center would provide a safe, supportive space for sports, arts, and other enriching activities, serving as a vital resource for the entire community.  Such facilities often become cherished hubs for various community events, strengthening bonds and enhancing our town's overall quality of life.

We need to urge our local council to prioritize the reclamation of our community center and give it back to Franklin Lakes. This initiative will ensure our young residents have the resources they need to thrive. Let’s come together as a community and make this a reality. Sign this petition, write letters and emails to council members, attend council meetings, urge them to support the reclamation of the recreation center at 1 Vichiconti Way that our children and future generations deserve. Together, we can make Franklin Lakes a better place for everyone.
